Setting your timer for Clovis
Set each program to your address’s days only. Clovis doesn’t limit the hours on your day, but early morning means less water lost to evaporation and wind. On November 1, change to your one winter day and cut run times back; on April 1, go back to three days.
The City’s Public Utilities Department offers help setting sprinkler timers to the current schedule, and landscape audits, at (559) 324-2600.
Rain and runoff
Because of the 48-hour rain rule, a rain delay, a rain sensor, or a smart controller is worth having in Clovis. To keep water off the driveway and sidewalk, re-aim heads, change nozzles, or split long run times into shorter cycles so the water soaks in.
How long should sprinklers run?
There isn’t one number for every yard. Spray heads, rotors, and drip all put down water at different rates, so each zone needs its own run time. The City also recommends grouping plants with similar water needs on the same valve, so each zone can be watered for what it holds.
