About Kerman
Kerman had 16,016 residents at the 2020 census and sits at about 220 feet above sea level. Incorporated in 1946.
The 2020 census counted 4,512 housing units in Kerman, and about 58.9% of occupied homes are owner-occupied. That works out to about 1,381 housing units per square mile.
Kerman began around 1891 as “Collis,” a Southern Pacific watering tank and pump on the new Tracy–Fresno line.
The name Kerman was built from the first three letters of the surnames of developers William G. Kerckhoff and Jacob Mansar, who saw a chance to buy water from the new Enterprise Canal, which drew from the Kings River.
The post office was renamed Kerman in 1906.
At about 220 feet, Kerman shares the Fresno area’s semi-arid San Joaquin Valley climate, with long, hot, dry summers, mild winters and average rainfall of around 11 inches a year.
Setting your sprinkler timer
Set the days first, then the start time. Starting before the morning limit and finishing before it keeps you inside the rules. Check every program on the controller, because leftover days on a second program are the most common way a home waters more than it should.
If a zone puddles or runs onto the street, shorten the run time and add a second start, or have the heads checked. Water on pavement is waste in every city we serve.
Not sure your timer is set right? A free 21-point inspection checks the controller and every zone, and we can program it for Kerman.
