First: shut off the water

  1. Controller off. Set the timer to Off. If the flooding stops, the leak only happens while that zone runs.
  2. Close the irrigation shutoff. If water still runs with the controller off, a valve is stuck open or the always-pressurized main line has broken. Close the shutoff for the sprinkler system.
  3. Can’t find it? Close the main shutoff for the house.
  4. Well water? Turn the pump off at its breaker.
  5. Call. Give us your address and a quick description, and send a photo if you can.

Then call us

Call or text (559) 203-7881. Tell us your address, what is broken and whether the water is off. We’ll get you on the schedule as fast as we can. Our Clovis location is open every day, 8 AM–6 PM.

Voicemail? Leave the address and a short description and we will call you back as soon as we can. With the supply shut off, the yard is safe until the repair.

What’s actually broken?

Water that stops when the controller is off: a broken head, a cracked riser or a split zone line. Annoying, but it only leaks during that zone’s run.

Water that keeps running with the controller off: a main-line break or a valve that won’t close. Both run around the clock, so shut off the supply right away.

Zone stuck on?

When a zone won’t stop, the valve is the usual culprit: grit under the diaphragm, a tear in it, or a solenoid that won’t seat. Some valves have a flow-control handle on top; turning it fully clockwise can shut the zone. If not, close the sprinkler shutoff and leave it closed until the valve is repaired.

Clovis: what to know about leaks

The City of Clovis handles leaks on City water mains and on the service line up to your water meter. If the water is coming from that side, call the City at (559) 324-2600. Leaks after the meter, including your sprinkler lines, are the owner’s to repair.

How we fix it

We find the break, dig only where it is, cut out the damaged section and repair it with proper fittings. For a stuck valve we clean or rebuild it, or replace it if it is worn out. Then we run every zone and check for other leaks. See sprinkler pipe repair in Clovis and valve repair in Clovis.

My sprinklers won’t stop running even with the controller off. Why?

A valve is stuck open, usually from debris, a torn diaphragm or a stuck solenoid, or the main line is broken. Close the sprinkler shutoff and call us.

Can I run my sprinklers before the repair?

Not the broken zone. If only one zone is affected and the main line is fine, the other zones can usually keep running. We confirm when we come out.

Where is my sprinkler shutoff valve?

Many homes have one on the line that feeds the sprinkler valves, often near the valve manifold or where the sprinkler line leaves the house supply. If you can’t find it, close the house main.
