How to stop a sprinkler leak right now
- Turn the controller to Off. If the water stops, a zone was running and the break is on that zone’s line or a head. It only leaks while the zone runs, so leave the controller off until it is fixed.
- Still running? Close the sprinkler shutoff. Water that keeps flowing with the controller off means a valve is stuck open or the main line is broken. Many homes have a separate shutoff on the line that feeds the valves.
- No sprinkler shutoff? Close the main water shutoff to the house.
- On a private well? Switch the pump off at its breaker.
- Then call us. Tell us your address and what you see.
In Kerman: why it can’t wait
Kerman’s watering rules, in short: odd Tue/Thu/Sat, even Wed/Fri/Sun (Mar 2–Nov 30); two days in winter; never Mondays. A broken line or a valve that won’t close ignores the schedule completely, so stop the water first, then call.
After the water is off
With the water stopped, reach us at (559) 203-7881 by call or text. Give us the address in Kerman, what broke and what you shut off, and we’ll get you on the schedule as fast as we can. Our Fresno location is open Sunday through Thursday 5 AM–9 PM and Friday 5 AM–6 PM, and closed Saturday. We serve Kerman from there, about 15.1 miles away.
Voicemail? Leave the address and a short description and we will call you back as soon as we can. With the supply shut off, the yard is safe until the repair.
What’s actually broken?
Water that stops when the controller is off: a broken head, a cracked riser or a split zone line. Annoying, but it only leaks during that zone’s run.
Water that keeps running with the controller off: a main-line break or a valve that won’t close. Both run around the clock, so shut off the supply right away.
A valve that won’t shut off
A zone that keeps running after the controller is off usually has debris in the valve, a torn diaphragm, or a solenoid stuck open. If your valve has a flow-control handle on top, turning it all the way clockwise can close it until we get there. Otherwise, close the sprinkler shutoff.

About Kerman
Kerman shares the Fresno area’s semi-arid San Joaquin Valley climate, with long, hot, dry summers, mild winters and about 11 inches of rain a year, so sprinklers carry most of the watering load.
Kerman had 16,016 residents at the 2020 census and sits at about 220 feet above sea level. Incorporated in 1946.
The 2020 census counted 4,512 housing units in Kerman, and about 58.9% of occupied homes are owner-occupied. That works out to about 1,381 housing units per square mile.
Kerman began around 1891 as “Collis,” a Southern Pacific watering tank and pump on the new Tracy–Fresno line.
What the repair involves
The repair itself is usually straightforward once the water is off: find the exact spot, dig the minimum, splice in new pipe and fittings, or service the valve that stuck. We finish by running the whole system. See sprinkler pipe repair in Kerman and valve repair in Kerman.
