How to stop a sprinkler leak right now
- Controller off. Set the timer to Off. If the flooding stops, the leak only happens while that zone runs.
- Close the irrigation shutoff. If water still runs with the controller off, a valve is stuck open or the always-pressurized main line has broken. Close the shutoff for the sprinkler system.
- Can’t find it? Close the main shutoff for the house.
- Well water? Turn the pump off at its breaker.
- Call. Give us your address and a quick description, and send a photo if you can.
Then call us
Call or text (559) 203-7881. Tell us your address, what is broken and whether the water is off. We’ll get you on the schedule as fast as we can. Our Fresno location is open Sunday through Thursday 5 AM–9 PM and Friday 5 AM–6 PM, and closed Saturday. We serve Easton from there, about 9.5 miles away.
If nobody picks up, leave a message with your address. With the water off, nothing gets worse while you wait for the repair.
A valve that won’t shut off
A zone that keeps running after the controller is off usually has debris in the valve, a torn diaphragm, or a solenoid stuck open. If your valve has a flow-control handle on top, turning it all the way clockwise can close it until we get there. Otherwise, close the sprinkler shutoff.
See our guide on a sprinkler valve that won’t shut off for more.
Two kinds of break
There are two pipes in every sprinkler system. Before the valves is the main line, which always holds full pressure. After the valves are the zone lines, which only fill when a zone runs.
A geyser that stops when you switch the timer off came from a zone line or a head. Water that keeps coming no matter what the timer says is the main line or a valve that is stuck open, and it will not stop on its own.
Who supplies water in Easton
A 2019 State Water Board case study says the entire community of Easton is on private wells, because there is no large water purveyor in the area.
Because most Easton homes are on their own wells, there is no city schedule that applies to them. If you have a well, the pump and pressure tank feed your sprinkler system. We work on the sprinkler side, not the pump.
See the full Easton watering schedule.
How we fix it
We find the break, dig only where it is, cut out the damaged section and repair it with proper fittings. For a stuck valve we clean or rebuild it, or replace it if it is worn out. Then we run every zone and check for other leaks. See sprinkler pipe repair in Easton and valve repair in Easton.
In Easton: why it can’t wait
Easton homes are on private wells, so a broken line also keeps your pump cycling. Close the sprinkler shutoff, or switch off the pump at its breaker, until the line is repaired. We repair the sprinkler side, not the pump.
About Easton
Easton shares the Fresno area’s semi-arid San Joaquin Valley climate, with long, hot, dry summers, mild winters and about 11 inches of rain a year, so sprinklers carry most of the watering load.
Easton was formerly known as Covel, and later Covell.
Easton has about 217 housing units per square mile, a much lower density than Fresno itself, so lots and landscapes tend to be larger.
Easton had 1,972 residents at the 2020 census and sits at about 276 feet above sea level. A census-designated place (not a city).
