Sprinkler leak detection in Caruthers, CA
A sprinkler leak doesn’t always show. Water can run under the lawn for weeks before anything looks wrong, and the first sign is often a water bill that jumps with nothing new in the house. We find sprinkler leaks in Caruthers the practical way: we run the system zone by zone, check the valves, heads and lines, and trace the water until we find where it is escaping. Then we show you what we found before any repair starts.
Signs you have a sprinkler leak in Caruthers
- A water bill that jumps with no change in how you use water
- Wet, soggy or muddy spots that never dry out, even on days the sprinklers don’t run
- Green patches that grow faster than the rest of the lawn, or a low spot that keeps sinking
- Water bubbling up, pooling on a walkway or running down the gutter
- One zone with weak spray, heads that barely pop up, or low pressure
- Water in a valve box, or heads that keep dribbling after the zone shuts off
- A zone that won’t shut off, or water running when the timer is off
A free meter check you can do first
Turn off every faucet, appliance and cooler. Find the water meter (usually in a box near the curb), write down the reading and the time, then look again 15 to 30 minutes later without using any water. If the reading changed, or the low-flow indicator keeps moving, water is leaving the pipes somewhere.
Next, close the shutoff valve for the sprinkler system and watch the meter again. If the movement stops, the leak is most likely on the sprinkler side. If it keeps moving, the leak may be in the house plumbing, which is a job for a plumber, not us.
How we find a sprinkler leak, zone by zone
- Run each zone. We turn on one zone at a time from the controller and watch it run: how the heads pop up, how strong the spray is and where water collects.
- Walk the lines. We look for wet spots, soft or sunken ground, water bubbling up and green strips that mark where a line runs and where it breaks.
- Check pressure, zone by zone. A zone with weak spray or heads that barely rise, while other zones look normal, usually points to a broken lateral line or a cracked fitting on that zone.
- Open the valve boxes. Water standing in a valve box, or a zone that keeps running or dribbles after it shuts off, points to a valve that is leaking or not closing.
- Check the always-on line. If the meter moves with every zone off, the leak is usually on the mainline between the shutoff and the valves, which stays under pressure all the time.
- Confirm before we dig. We dig only where the signs point, expose the break and show you what failed before any repair starts.
