About Fort Washington
Fort Washington is an established north Fresno area centered on the Fort Washington Golf & Country Club at 10272 N. Millbrook Avenue. The club began in 1923 as a nine-hole course with dirt fairways and sand greens. Part of the area is a small unincorporated census-designated place in Fresno County (255 residents in 2020); the rest is inside the City of Fresno.
Homes here tend to be medium-to-large single-family houses on broad lots with mature landscaping, many built between 1970 and 1999. The area spans ZIPs 93720 and 93730, about 6 miles from our Fresno location.
ZIP: 93720 and 93730 · Distance: about 6.4 miles from ACRE Fresno, 911 E Lansing Way.
Mature yards, older valves
Established yards mean big trees, deep shrub beds and lawns that have been watered the same way for decades. Systems from the 1970s through the 1990s are now old enough that valves, wiring and controllers fail more often, and tree roots have had decades to reach the lines.
Broad lots also mean more zones. A careful zone-by-zone check finds the weeping valve or the line a root has cracked before it turns into a soggy bed or a dead patch.
Upgrade the controller, keep the yard
Many established yards still run on an old dial timer. A smart controller keeps the plantings you have but waters by weather, and it is easy to set to the right days. Paired with repairs to worn valves, it is often the best value upgrade for an older system.
Watering rules in Fort Washington
Part of Fort Washington is inside the City of Fresno and part is unincorporated Fresno County, so the rules depend on your water provider. City of Fresno water customers follow the City schedule: From April 1 to October 31, odd-numbered addresses water Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and even-numbered addresses Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. From November 1 to March 31, odd addresses water Saturday only and even addresses Sunday only. No watering on Mondays, and never between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
If your bill comes from another provider, follow that provider’s schedule. Not sure? Check the name on your water bill. Details for City customers: Fresno watering schedule.
