Check who supplies your water and its current conservation stage before you plant. For County-operated systems, Madera County currently lists Stage 2 (Public Works notices).
Many Ranchos projects start at the edges of the lot: windbreaks, tree rows, and gravel paths that tie the property together. Drip-watered trees and shrubs keep those areas alive without much water.
